I'm so tired. Working on blog. We took the Gs out to a new (to us) restaurant in Old Saybrook, Terra Mar. Everyone liked it! I wore my new dress (Dean told me I should!). When he hugged me goodbye, my G said, "I love your outfit."

I'm officially abandoning Blogger. Waaaaaaaay too frustrating, since posting NEVER works lately. (Plus, they are dumping all FTP people on May 1st anyway.) Blogster (the replacement Dean is writing for me ♥ ♥ ♥) isn't ready yet, so I'm just manually editing the HTML for now.

COME ON, BLOGGER, HOW MUCH PATIENCE IS ONE PERSON SUPPOSED TO HAVE?????

Posted at 11:45:00 PM by Laura W. Petix.

So glad I don't have to go anywhere today, other than the pool this morning! Getting all revived. Washing clothes. Listening to the basement tapes and Johnny Cash. Drinking Kona coffee. Sitting still. Thinking about shad. Planning to vacuum all that thread off my carpet.

Today at the pool, the guy in the next lane asked, "Did you make it all the way?" when I emerged from swimming across the bottom. I said, "Almost!" Swimming all the way across is hard. I like my new schedule: pool on Monday and Friday (36 x across, underwater on the multiples of six), weights at NEAC on Tuesday and Thursday, and Pilates (video on my computer) on Wednesday. It would be better if I did Pilates more than once a week but I don't have time on the days I do other stuff. I'm proud I haven't slacked so far! Not sure how/if I'll be able to do keep it up while the Gs are visiting though. I'd have to get up early, and you know how likely that is.

I like going in the sauna to dry my hair after I wash it post-pool. Very mmmmmm. I usually listen to my Sauna Playlist so I'll stay in the right amount of time and not get too dried up: "Engadine's Dreamy Party" (from The Prisoner), "Oh Sister" (Dylan cover by Andrew Bird and Nora O'Connor), and "One Too Many Mornings" (Dylan cover by Jerry Jeff Walker). But today I listened to "Cool Water" (basement tapes version), "Cool Water" (Johnny Cash version from American VI), "Cindy" (Johnny Cash & Nick Cave) (I love these folk songs that remind me of stuff we sang in music class in elementary school, and with my mom... we had this cool book of folk songs (from the library I think) one year at the cottage), and "Belchezaar." Love LOVE! "Belchezaar" is so cool. (All these songs are.) Very appropriate since I have to do the Hawaii entry about the Handwriting on the Wall today. I forgot to mention that my new skirt was entirely fueled by Johnny Cash. I bought a bunch of new Johnny Cash songs on iTunes and just played all my Cash songs over and over while making it. All the new ones I bought are folk songs and massively-improved-by-Cash cover songs. I like how Bob (+ The Band, but they just do backup vocals) sing totally different lyrics than Johnny Cash on "Cool Water." Not sure if they are alt lyrics or Bob just doesn't know the lyrics very well so he makes them up.

Oh yeah, these songs also remind me of this 4-H songbook we used to have (I still have it) that I read a million times when I was a kid. I wasn't in 4-H but I took over that songbook. A lot of these songs, I've never actually heard but I know them from reading the lyrics a million times.

I'm soooooo tired out. From NEAC, I guess. And driving. But I love my new dress so much.

[Edit: Photos from trying it on: 1) I love how Hellenic it looks. 2) I was really exhausted.]

Just finished making copies and getting them certified for Dean at the Berlin Town Hall. (I love those embosser things!) Now I'm going to go try on that dress again...

Medium iced coffee, half dark roast half decaf, part cream part milk. It's not Kona, but it's GOOD. I just love LOVE Shrunkin's orange & fuchia striped straws. :) I was thirsty after NEAC.

I am obsessed with the dress I tried on at Anthropologie yesterday. It's called the Speckled Ink Dress, and it's torturing me. I'm going to try it on again tomorrow. It's not available online anymore in my size, and they have one left at Evergreen Walk. I never buy expensive dresses (okay it's not that expensive for a nice dress, but I am cheap, and have never bought a real, adult, non-consignment store dress) but I can't stop thinking about it.

dressing room mirror head shot Robeks tart frozen yogurt & my new homemade skirt. ♥

[Edit: Here's the skirt! It's loosely based on the style of the ALB-looking Billabong skirt I got in Hawaii. And here it is in action at the mall: dressing room mirror photo #1, and dressing room mirror photo #2 (showing off the pocket). I really like it!

Finished my skirt! I added a lining made out of muslin (which was pretty hard since I didn't know what I was doing, but I managed), and made a neater pocket and sewed it on. It looks good! I didn't position the pocket with any regard to whether my hand would go into it well, but it does, very. Only bad thing is, I accidentally poked two tiny holes in one of the purple squares with the threader-cutter thing on my sewing machine!! They are almost impossible to find, but hopefully they won't spread. Ak. I also broke a sewing machine needle into four pieces (!) but that was fine. Four pieces, though!

My floor is now covered by a massacre of arms.

Just bought a totally beautiful spring sweater/jacket/thingie from the markdown room at Anthropologie. It's still kind of expensive (for someone who buys most of her clothes at Uptown Consignment, at least) but I think I'll wear it all the time. I hope.

"Die-Off Spreads: Spring count shows bats decimated over the winter." This article made the front page of the Hartford Courant today. I saw it through the window of a newspaper box in front of Shrunkin', and gasped, "Oh, no." So sad. :-(

(Note that the article is by Rinker Buck!)

[Edit: Ugh. Just re-read the article in detail, and this related one. So so so awful.]

Oh yeah, and look at this great shad site! I want to try to visit the Shad Museum this year. Unfortunately, it's only open on Sundays. :( It's time for me to be drawing shad, isn't it??

Dean, walking into my room: "Look at all these arms."

Um, yeah. My floor is all covered in pieces of offwhite thread. Will finish skirt tomorrow! Mocked up a patch pocket and I really like it but I want to redo it better before I sew on the real thing. Love LOVE my new invention pattern.

I'm inventing a new skirt pattern using my elastic thread! Had to modify it a couple of times as I went along, but I think I've got something good going now. Shirred waist = so easy! I love it!

It was so pretty out today. Sunny, bright blue sky, bright white fluffy clouds, flowering trees and new spring leaves everywhere. I just kept staring at everything. I visited the mauve magnolia in Middletown, but it's all full of pale green leaves. There were a few decadent blooms still hanging on, and the ivy beneath the tree was littered in decaying petals. Nice.

And, I got a brand-new looking pair of Uggs at Uptown Consignment for $30! Check it out! They're my size, have closed toes, and are feet-colored! My ideal shoe! The bottoms are wooden and clog-style, so they're a little clonky, but they're not too high.

Since it's COLD (has been for the past several days), I had salted oatmeal with a Fuji apple for breakfast, and it was so good. (No more Honeycrisp apples to be had since we came back from Hawaii.) I just brought in the second batch of tulips so we can enjoy them inside. They're from the bulbs we planted two years ago, and it doesn't seem like that many are coming back. The ones that have are really nice, though.

Great, entertaining dream again this morning, this time about Chuck. (Yesterday, I was The Temp from The Office (?!?!) (unlike today's dream, it wasn't like watching an episode from the outside... it was more like I was pretending to be him, but I was him) but it was a very serious murder situation where he looked really guilty because he fled the scene of the crime, even though he didn't actually do it (not a normal silly Office episode). Even Michael was all serious and was just looking at me in shock. Chuck this morning was kind of sci-fi (more than a normal Chuck, and I wouldn't have approved if it had been a real episode): some big weird explosion or something happened and Awesome seemingly got annihilated and Casey got all injured, but later Chuck discovered that Awesome actually just got made invisible and then it turned out that both Awesome and Casey would go invisible if Chuck said the word "awesome." Haha! It was a really good dream, though! Very suspenseful and I was really caught up in what would happen, but I intentionally woke up because I didn't want to see the whole thing and spoiler myself. ??! It's not a real episode, ME! Both dreams were delightfully emotionally intense. So excellent! Anyway, must fly because it's time for the POOL! I like to go at 12:00 because everyone else is leaving then.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaagh, I am exerting an unbelievably insane amount of patience trying to get all my Hawaii blog posts published. I have to reload and re-attempt to publish each post about FIVE times because blankedyblankblank BLOGGER never works!!!!!!!! It's been acting this like since right before we went to Hawaii (making each attempt to post super-time consuming and frustrating, which is part of the reason I am so far behind), but it's even worse now. I CAN'T WAIT for Blogster to be ready to use!!!!

Slaving away! Pushing through! I stayed up until birds-tweeting-o'clock last night working on my Hawaiian ALB posts (while Dean was working on writing Blogster for me, since Blogger will quit working for FTP people on May 1st! ♥!!!), then woke up at about 1:45 after a really cool dream, with a huge craving for Lotus Cafe chicken. Took a bath and ate delicious pink grapefruit with a sprinkling of vanilla sugar and poached eggs with Penzeys smoked Spanish paprika instead, then went right back to slaving! Getting really hungry now, so we're going to take a break and go to Dara's. But back to the grindstone, after! Whip crack!! Getting lots done.
