Oh, wow, I just received my first high school person friend request on Facebook. (Not including someone I didn't even know, so I ignored.) Weird!! Should I accept, or not???

the power of ORAC!Amazing! This was in the Trader Joe's Fearless Flyer I got in today's mail. The power of ORAC! That's pretty incredible. I've never heard him described as a superhero before, but I suppose you could think of it that way. I just hope the powder doesn't give you Orac's personality.

Shoe verdict: I definitely like the pink-plaid-w/black-trim better than the blue-chair-upholstery-w/grey trim, even though though the blue fits better. Groan! And there is no pink plaid available in size 7.5, so that's not even an option. In fact, now there's no anything in size 7.5. What the heck is up with the wacky availability of this shoe??

Oh also: love LOVE my new sewing machine, with its special fancy stitches, so perfect for shortening t-shirts. Why are t-shirts always so long these days? I mean, I know I don't have anything (chest, stomach, back) to fill them up with but I'm pretty sure they're long beyond just that. Anyway, now I have three formerly too-lengthy shirts that are now the perfect length and don't looked rigged, thanks to my rolly cutter, the cool #6 stitch, and properly matching thread.

42°, with big gorgeous clouds and a happy sun shining through the holes... so nice out! Mailed all the remaining boxes to the Kona P.O. I ♥ General Delivery. There was no one to open the door, but luckily I was able to manage it with just the two small heavy boxes, by propping them against the doorframe while I opened with one hand. When Cindy put the first box on the scale and asked, "350?" for a second I thought she meant the weight in pounds. Hahaha. It was actually the amount we were insuring it for; I forgot we'd labeled the boxes with yellow stickies. :-)

Went to NEAC afterwards, and mmmmmmm now I feel so nice and oxygenized. I got an iced coffee at Shrunkin' on the way home. Did all my Thursday-ing this morning, and now I just have to finish picking out clothes to pack (don't actually need to finish until Monday or Tuesday, and I am 3/4 done anyway). And I have to write my Puako entries, of course. Heh heh.

UPS delivered another pair of Ocean Mindeds this morning!! Now I have to choose between them, and I can't! The new pair is a half-size smaller and is blue (and was equally as cheap as my first pair)! They kind of look like a chair. The upholstery, I mean. They fit my foot better, which is wacky, because they're size 7.5 and I usually wear size 8.5.

Hey! Dean stole the big box out of my car and sneakily brought it to the post office this morning! :-) ♥

Just finished sealing up and addressing all the boxes! (And sticking on ocean creature stickers, natch.) Two large flat rates, and one big 18" x 18" x 16", with the BCDs in. I just hope I don't injure myself carrying them into the post office tomorrow! And that some kind neighbor is there to open the doors for me. :)

Wow!!! My new Ocean Minded shoes came, and I like them! I have been checking the UPS tracking nonstop for the past three days. I bolted downstairs just now when I finally heard the doorbell ring. Heehee. I ordered them on a total whim, (on my Netbook, even!) which I never do, and I also never buy shoes without trying them on (unless they are clones of shoes I already have). Out of the possible outcomes: 1) I wouldn't like them, 2) I'd like them but they wouldn't fit (the worst possibility, since I wouldn't have time to exchange them before Hawaii, and it would be a huge tease), or 3) they'd fit and I'd like them, I barely dared hope for #3!

I was afraid they'd be too small, but if anything they're slightly loose, although not in a "doesn't fit" way... more of a comfortable, slacky, surfer way. They are $74. on Zappos, but I got them for only $27.98 on Amazon, for some strange reason (even weirder, I only ordered them this weekend, but now my size is $47.45 on Amazon!). I found out about them because I was looking up the Croc store in Kona, to make sure it's still there in case Dean needs to replace his Crocs while we're there, and their website mentioned that they now carry Ocean Minded brand, so I checked out the Ocean Minded website because I loved the name, and when I saw these shoes and read about all the cool eco-friendly aspects to them and the wool shearling innards (yes, they're made of lots of recycled stuff, but no, they are not vegetarian!), I wanted them, and when I saw the bizarre price on Amazon, I snagged them (while saying stuff like "Crazy!" the whole time since I was acting so impulsively). Ha! Ocean Minded even donates part of my purchase price to Surfrider Foundation, which was on my list of possible charities to donate to last year! All right, I guess these shoes were meant to be. They are very cozy and I'm bringing wearing them to Hawaii!

Okay, I only have ONE WEEK left to finish my Puako entries! Haha. Anyway, in that vein, I was looking at my saved drafts (I have all sorts of odd ones) to find the dive slate notes I entered, and I found this. I guess it's an entry I started to write (originally dated March 9, last year) to share some photos, but never posted. The underwater ones are from Sug (Mahukona) on March 3rd, and the beater ("hoodie," but I don't call them that) photo is from Pine Tree Pools on March 1st. I hadn't caught my breath enough to fool around with photos yet, that early in the trip. (The second beater photo is from Pine Tree Ponds and was posted on March 5th.) Anyway, they're kind of cute, so I'm posting it now instead of leaving them in the draft graveyard. Getting into trouble with sea urchins is pretty classic Laura, after all. :-)

[Original, unfinished, draft post:

I love the look on my face in the Part Two picture.

And here's an Oshima beater picture to go with my Roxy beater picture.] [End of draft!]

Okay, real Puako posts coming soon. Really.

Still snowing! And still no mail. Whatever happened to "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds"? It's not even that bad out!

at the mailboxStill no mail!

But I took some pics and stomped around wearing my boots and Richard hat. It's fun out there! Finally, a decent snowstorm.

P.S. AGD shared this link with me while I was fooling around not packing. Aaah! HUGE TEASE!!! "Delivered to Mainland UK Only." I think I need to add jellied eels/pie 'n' mash to my Weird Foods I Especially Want To Try list.

Just got back from my snow adventure (hair appointment with Michelle, so I only had to drive on four roads). Fun! Just drove carefully, and it was fine. So so so pretty and white. Everything white.

Listening to Christmas CD by mistake in the car and I just can't stop. Today's a perfect day for People Look East, Pachelbel Canon In D, and The Holly and the Ivy.

beauty in ordinary thingsWe went to China Pan for dinner this afternoon for combo Chinese New Year and Valentine's Day, and our favorite waiter was pretty harried with all the simultaneous holidays! He told us there's a new owner who has owned Japanese restaurants, and that's why China Pan is now offering a sushi bar as well as Chinese food. That's all right as a bonus--I tried an eel roll (seemed appropriate for New Year's) and it was good (nice, tender, non-chewy seaweed!), but the reason to go to China Pan is for all the creative vegetarian (and vegan) versions of Chinese dishes. They had a special Chinese New Year menu today, too, but it didn't have any weird stuff like the pickled hog's maw (tripe) I got last year. Dean did order some cool and strange veggie stuff from the New Year specials, though. One was a tasty cabbage thing, and the other had seitan (they called it wheat gluten something-or-other), wood ear (mushrooms, which really looked like an ear for a tree!) and lily flower (not sure what that is...). It was good! Anyway, I really liked this fortune (above).

Dean was reorganizing his bookshelf this morning and found this feedback postcard inside a book published in 1955, so we filled out the reverse side and are going to mail it and see what happens! Do you think Simon & Schuster's 55-year old first class permit (for 2¢ per card!) will still be valid?? The questions on the reverse were quite thoughtful ("The publishers would like to know whether this book has lived up to your expectations. If so, why? If not, why not?) and Dean gave excellent answers. The best part was when they asked how this book "came to his attention" and he said "by word of mouth" on an "Internet newsgroup" and in the "bought at" blank, answered "eBay." :-)
