Wow, I was all messed up last night (after watching Chuck, but totally unrelated to watching Chuck). Not even sure why, really. I couldn't fall asleep and I needed a hug. Not from an umbrella.

Chuck.S02E01. Pure love from beginning to end. Yes I watched it again just now. Warm glowy, seriously.

I wore my umbrella shirt to dinner tonight, and was inspired to come up with this great analogy: hugging me is like hugging an umbrella. I.e., slippery, cold, nothing there, bony spines protruding through, sharp bits poking you, etc. Dean concurs.

There are "many" shad at the mouth of the river now. Excellent pexcellent--right on time for my Gs' visit! I bet Atlantic Seafood has shad, although it'll be a couple of weeks before Hale's does.

Together Through Life is very good browsing-around-a-bookstore music. I know this because every time I go to Borders (twice this week, solely because I was in the area and wanted a great Borders Cafe cappuccino) they have been playing it over the soundsystem, and it was highly enjoyable in that context. It has been growing on me more in the car, too, mixed in with Modern Times tracks. Most of all what I'm realizing, though, is that I actually like a bunch of the songs on Modern Times quite a lot, although the album as a whole conglomeration doesn't do it for me. I absolutely love "Spirit On the Water."

But really, if I think about it, I usually don't like listening to entire Dylan albums, so maybe it's just par for the course, and "Love And Theft" is special. Anyway, TTL isn't bad... but I don't think I'm going to fall in love with any of the songs. I'll report back if I do.

1) Mmmmm. I can't believe I am actually capable of making delicious coffee now, thanks to Kona Mountain and my Aeropress.

B) Mmmmm. Last night we went to a) a wake (Dean's uncle) and, afterwards, b) Thali for the first time. Aaaaaagh. Why does Thali have to be in New Haven?????

3) "For a few moments, then, let us pretend I'm a human being."

I think all shows need more scenes where the heroes get attacked by mysterious poison gas. Every episode of The Man From UNCLE so far has had at least one poison gas incident! First there was the poison gas in Napoleon's car, activated when he reached 50 mph (made him pass out and crash in a lake), then the poison gas when he turned on the shower (he escaped by blowing off the bathroom door using a can of shaving cream, a washcloth, aftershave, and his lighter, which he happened to have in his robe pocket) (oh and luckily for him, he was still wearing his robe when he turned on the shower, so when the pretty girl showed up in the next scene, he was able to immediately answer the door) (I never wear a robe while turning on the shower... but, then, I'm not a secret agent). And then of course there was my favorite poison gas (at least, favorite in memory; perhaps I will encounter still better poison gasses to come), in "The Quadripartite Affair." Fear gas in a box of chocolates!! Yeah! Mr. Waverly: "Is that some sort of animal I hear crying?" Napoleon: "Yes, something like that." The start of lots more hurt, drug, torture scenes to come for Mr. Illya Kuryakin. (I love the brief "What the hell?" glance of Napoleon's while Illya's hiding from him under that counter whimpering. Hahahah! My favorite will always be Illya, but I love Napoleon's expressions! And how dapper he is. And his sense of humor. And his perfect balance of warmth and professionalism. Okay, maybe I have a little crush on Napoleon too.)

Now, I do have fond memories of a purple gas (coming out of a vent in the ceiling?) in one of the color episodes (obviously), so I'm very much looking forward to that. I don't know if it can top fear gas, but we shall see. Poison gas should be purple, I think. It's just classic.

Oh, and every poison gas scene in Chuck = WIN!! They need more, though. Once per episode! MFU has set the standard!

What was I saying?

Oh yes, 4) Since it's Thursday, and at Jan's suggestion, I tried to take a series of photos of the many alternative methods for wearing my starry birthday scarf (which I received last week, exactly on time), but it's very difficult to photograph yourself wearing a scarf, so, as usual, my attempts were pretty much a failure. I do like this one, though (even though you can't see very much of my cool new scarf). P.S. Lip color = "crushed mauve." (Reason why my lips aren't their natural lovely shade of blue.) Crushed mauve. Can there be a better color name than that? Just ponder it. Although, I would say the dark circles under my eyes are more of a crushed mauve than the lips, but what can you do?

Hm. Listening to Together Through Life makes me want to listen to Modern Times. (I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing.) It did grow on me a little today. I think I'm going to make a TTL/MT combo mix CD with the best songs from each, and try listening to that. First I have to figure out what the best songs are, though.

shad swimming up

Incidently, it's almost time! Zero shad so far at the Holyoke Dam, but there are a few all the way up past Springfield!

1) I officially love my modded skirt, except for the hook and eye above the zipper that stabs me in the backbone when I'm driving. I think I will be removing that.

B) I'm not a fan of Together Through Life. The first song's not bad, but after that... eh. Maybe it'll grow on me. But considering that Modern Times didn't really, I doubt it.

listening to Together Through LifeOkay, I ran out and got Together Through Life at Buy More Best Buy (and it was a different edition than the weird skinny one at Starbucks). Not sure what I think of it yet, but the second and third songs were painful. Haven't played it all the way through though. Today's Beag In A Parking Lot temperature: 97°. But then it dropped down to 92 while I was driving. I got an amazing cappuccino from the Foam Artist at Borders and found out he's a huge Grateful Dead fan. Okay, back out into the degrees.

I don't have anything to post, except this. Beautiful. We have lot of tulips out now, all different colors and color combos (but an overabundance include orange). A bunch of the new ones are pointy. Lately I've started watching The Man From UNCLE on our new Schwinn stationary bike in the basement. So far I've only watched two episodes, since I only view a half hour at a time. But next one's "The Quadripartite Affair"!!

Sign at the Evergreen Walk SBUX: "We have finally gotten our notice and will be closing May 10th. We have all loved serving you. You will be missed! Countdown to close: 13 days." I got a 100% delicious tall dry for-here cappuccino with caramel drizzle on top. Salty. Thick foam. Spoon. They had Bob's new album for sale at the register but I didn't buy it because I thought it was coming out tomorrow (? maybe I'm wrong) and also I didn't trust that it wasn't some weird Starbucks version. It was very very skinny. Maybe the real thing is skinny, but it was odd. I was in the Evergreen Walk area because I brought a bunch of our former/unused scuba gear to New England Ski & Scuba for consignment. Who knows if anyone will buy it (and we'll only get store credit anyway) but it's better than it sitting uselessly in the closet. It was so warm today. 93°, according to my Beag, but that was after it was sitting in the sun in a parking lot, so it might be a slight lie. Oh, and since I was nearby and needed some groceries, I went to Highland Park Market to see if it's actually great like the reviews say. It was nice, but not really super-exciting. I think the exceptional part is their customer service, which didn't really apply, other than the bagger offering to carry my bags out to my car for me (I declined). They did have a lot of fantastic looking Italian desserts. I modded a skirt tonight and I think I'm going to love it! I got it at Uptown a while ago. It was a zillion sizes too big on me, but the zipper was in the back, so I knew I could easily take in the side seams. Will try out tomorrow. It's supposed to be "much warmer" than today! (?!) I love how the warm relaxy air feels. It's so summer. Even though it's not summer.

My iPod just will not stick to playing my Wake Up playlist in the morning. Today it switched to Top 25 Most Played instead for some reason. Pretty good selection there, I must say.

I was craving a Rein's-esque sandwich (odd, because I almost never eat sandwiches) so we went to Rein's (Dean's maverick idea). I thought it was crazy, but it turned out it's actually less than 25 minutes away. I got a kippered salmon sandwich and a bowl of matzoh ball soup! And we had tapioca for dessert. It was fantastic!
